A perfect companion to an integrated HDTV is a D-VHS recorder. It can record off-air HDTV broadcasts and the output of digital satellite receivers or cable boxes with an FireWire (IEEE 1394) interface.! Now you can watch at a later date that movie or game you missed without giving up any of the high definition picture quality or digital sound. 0-VHS recorders provide more than just true HDTV picture quality. They are also easy to connect and operate. Simply connect one FireWire cable between the D-VHS Recorder and the integrated HDTV, and all video, audio, and control signals for recording and playback will pass through. Pt you have a Mitsubishi integrated HOEd, there is no need to program the VCR. When a digital recording is desired, the TV produces a pop-up window that prompts you to easily select the channel and recording time.

Not all D-VHS recorders are alike. Mitsubishi models also have HAVi, an advanced system that communicates over FireWire cable with an HAVi-equipped integrated HDTV. With HAVi the TV can display much more detailed and useful information, such as the D-VHS recorder’s status menu, showing its tape counter setting and the recording data rate.

Mitsubishi offers two D-VHS recorders. In addition to their digital HDTV recording and playback capabilities, both the HS-HD1100U and the HS-HD2000U can record conventional video signals just like an ordinary VON. They can even record D-VHS and VHS or S-VHS (HS-HU2000U only) on the same tape, allowing a single tape to be programmed to record a variety of events.
